Coaching & Qualifications

With a massive amount of high level coaching, you'll become a better surfer than you ever thought possible, whilst gaining qualifications that prepare you for the global surf and lifeguard industry.

For the duration of the course you will be out with local surfers that have grown up in the area, but have also gone through the ASI (Academy of Surfing Instructors) assessments. The surf school’s three main pros have notched up a respectable 25 years of surf coaching, and have participated in some of the largest surfing competitions in Morocco.

Over the course of 12 weeks our coaches will guide you through all of the basics, right the way up to high performance in the pocket surfing. Three months of intensive surfing and you'll be super fit and will have pushed your surfing ability to a much higher level. The aim is to get you feeling confident in all different types of surf breaks, from the long walls at Anchors to barrels at Killers.

Lessons & Training

Whether you have experience or not, the surf coaches will put everyone through the basics to iron out any bad habits and build an awareness of good technique.

You will be taught how to read the ocean currents, and understand when the conditions are safe to enter into the water. These lessons will also help you understand how to take advantage of the rip tides, to get out to the back of the line-ups with minimal effort!

Once you are riding green waves, we will ratchet-up the instruction with early morning dawn sessions to take advantage of glassy clean waves and empty line-ups. We’ll show you how to perfect your bottom turns, carve off the top and really use your whole body to powder through your cut-backs. By the end of the 12 weeks you will be surfing with speed, power, and excellent technique.

Work Experience

As part of the 12 week course we’ll get you to coach classes of guests staying at the Surf Berbere surf camp, under the guidance of one of our instructors. This experience will be vital in passing the BSA surf instructor assessment at the end of the course for two reasons. Firstly, by helping other people learn to surf, you will begin to analyse the faults in your own technique. Secondly, you need to have over 20 hours of supervised surf coaching under your belt before you are able to become a BSA level 1 instructor.

Surf Instructor Qualifications & Career Opportunities

During the last two weeks of the 12 week GAP course we will put you through the ASI (Association of Surf Instructors) Level 1 assessment. The assessment is run by internationally renowned ASI instructor, Nick Thorn. The qualificatioj enables you to teach beginner to intermediate surfers which is the vast majority of any surf school business.

Both Surf Berbere and Nonstop are fantastically placed to help all newly qualified surf instructors find work in the surf/snow industry. Last year, all of our newly qualified surf coaches who were looking for work, managed to find something within a month.

Life Guarding Qualifications & Career Opportunities

Nick Thorn returns this year to host our SLS internationally recognised beach lifeguarding assessment. This one week course will show you the basics of the first aid that you might be required to administer whilst lifesaving, as well as go through all the basics of ocean safety. Armed with your SLS lifeguarding qualification (and a nice pair of red shorts!) you’ll be able to find work on beaches anywhere in the world.
